CESESMA, the Center for Educational Services in Health and the Environment, is an independent non-governmental organisation that works with children and adolescents in the coffee-growing zone of northern Nicaragua. Dependence on coffee cultivation leads to a high incidence of child labour and related social problems. CESESMA is a team made up almost entirely of Nicaraguans, mostly from this area. Although CESESMA depends on external cooperation and solidarity to finance their work, they are autonomous and independent from any external agency.
