Neighbours Peace Initiative is a Civil Society Organisation formed in 2007 and registered with the Ministry of Gender and Social Development in 2009. Initially it was formed to prevent and mitigate the adverse effects of the 2007 elections campaigns and post-election violence on ‘foreign’ communities in Narok District, Rift Valley Province, Kenya. Currently, the organisation works with UNDP-Amkeniwakenya and Media Focus on Africa to implement civic education through leadership campaigns, democracy and good governance and Sisi Ni Amani to promote peaceful co-existence in Narok County through social media and SMS platforms. The main strategies used in the peace campaign include, but are not limited to, neighbour-to-neighbour and women-to-women dialogue, training of peace ambassadors from all the ethnic communities, and cultural leader engagement in conflict resolution in rural settings.
